
DEPRESSION.......
Depression is both treatable and curable. Let there be no stigma attached to those suffering from it.
There is no point treating a depressed person as though she or he were just feeling sad, saying "There now ,hang on, you'll get over it"......Sadness is more or less like a head cold; with patience, it passes. On the other hand...Depression is like cancer.!!
WHAT IS DEPRESSION???
It is persistent sadness and loss of interest
in day -to-day activities and other forms of activities that one normally enjoys.The
causes are manifold .It could be genetic or a Neurotransmitter change in the brain..even stress attributes to mental depression.
Globally , an estimated 350 million people are affected with depression and over 800,000 commit suicide every year. The number is steadily increasing. Depression is a scaron one's mind....It devastates the patient and his family financially, emotionally and socially. Everyone has been affected by it or witnessed it in a near or dear one....It spells gloom and despair in the person's psyche and also in other family members. It sucks a persons vitality and drains his physical and mental energy
BUT DON'T DESPAIR...THERE IS GOOD NEWS TOO !!!
Depression is treatable.....Awareness ,early
recognition of the symtoms through psycho-
education and appropriate timely medical aid is necessary.Therapy is useful in the early stages....medicines may also be required later.With timely and proper medical treatment....psycotherapy, care and FAMILY SUPPORT..depression can be rooted out completely from ones life and from society.
Friends....family support ...sharing ....caring...compassion....humour....empathy...positive thinking and resilience are some of the soft skills which have to be inculcated in one's life to keep depression at bay.
THE MODERN GENERATION...
Depression these days in our young generation is scarry!! Times have changed and so has the thinking...folks can't bear any stress...Reasons to aggravate the situation are MANY...Job tensions....a breakup with a dear one...business failures...lack of funds....ill health.....comparison with friends who are sailing well....being a dropout.....lack of confidence....no will power.....plenty of negativity to sink you completely.....
Do not ignore the symtoms pertaining to a depression...be it a friend or relation....staying aloof..lacking sleep...appearing vague etc. These people need your help desperately.
UNDERSTAND THEIR PLIGHTT...BOOST THEIR MORALE....FIND THE DEEP ROOT CAUSING MENTAL AGONY....INFUSE LOTS OF POSITIVITY IN THEM....TAKE THEM FOR A CHANGE OF PLACE....LISTEN TO THEIR WOES.....BE CALM AND COOL,DON'T SCARE THEM....GIVE THEM YOUR TIME.....LET THEM FEEL IMPORTANT AND WANTED...CHEER THEM UP.....TOLERATE THEIR EMOTIONAL OUTBURSTS....NEVER BE ONE-SIDED....DON'T COMPARE SIBLINGS... (they are unable to weigh reasons)....BEAR WITH THEM..
DON'T LET THEM GET WORSE !!!!
